1995 was the 3rd time around Corvette paced the Indianapolis 500 with Chevrolet's General Manager Jim Perkins behind the wheel for the 79th Indianapolis 500. Chevrolet announced on the 3rd of January that they would be producing a limited run of 527 convertible pace car replicas. All of the pace car replica's had either 300 or 340 horsepower and 340 pounds of torque delivered from their new LT1 5.7L V8 engine. The LT1 replaced the old L98 in 1992. Perkins pace car had a 4 speed automatic transmission which so did the replicas.
