<< Car Chaos Photo Shoots << Corvette Photos - July 28th

1978 was the 25th anniversary for Corvette and also the first time for Corvette to pace the Indianapolis 500. Chevrolet built a series of pace car replicas to celebrate the event. There was a total of 6,502 replicas built but only a total of 20 of the Corvettes built had every option installed. Chevrolet was very proud of the fact that they were the first car to pace Indy with a completely stock drive train. The drive train was the first to be built from a one piece fiberglass body and also was the only two seated car since before World War II. Chevrolet also redesigned the rear end with a fastback style which created more back passenger room and a larger rear window. They also updated the interior with a new more square, vertical shaped speedometer and tachometer and also put in a glove box.
